The Local Area
|
|
Broadclyst village is completely surrounded by farmland and
is ideal for walkers or cyclists. The National Trust’s Killerton
House and gardens, and Ashclyst forest are both a five minute drive.
An easy five mile drive is the historic cathedral city of Exeter. At the heart of the city is the magnificent cathedral with its twin
Norman towers and some of the finest Decorated Gothic architecture
in the country. Medieval underground passages, the catacomb and Roman
wall all add to the Exeter experience.
A ten minute walk from the city centre brings one to
the Quay where the old warehouses have been converted
into craft shops, antique galleries and restaurants.
For the more adventurous wishing to indulge in some serious
walking is Dartmoor National Park. Lying roughly between
Exeter and Plymouth its 368 square miles offer a mixture
of high moorland, sheltered wooded valleys and beautiful lakes.
Exmouth, Devon’s oldest seaside town is the nearest whilst
further along the coast are
Budleigh Salterton, Sidmouth and the pretty villages
of Branscombe and Beer. These all lie on the ninety five
mile long Jurassic Coast which in 2001 was made a World Heritage Site.
